This competition, considered by many to be the epitome of building excellence nationwide showcases only the best examples of quality craftsmanship and design vision.

Taking the top honours at the awards this year, this new house in southwest Whangarei is a modern take on the Millbrook design. With minimal hallways and a stunning open-plan kitchen/dining/family area, the layout makes great use of its 286sqm footprint.

Raking ceilings give the heart of the home an inviting airy feel, making it a perfect space to share. Entertainers will be in foodie heaven thanks to the spacious, well-designed kitchen. Glass sliders open to a grand portico for outdoor dining and all-day R&R.

The owners are given the special treatment in their own part of the home. The master bedroom enjoys access to a private ensuite. Kids and/or guests are accommodated in a separate domain with three bedrooms, a family bathroom, separate toilet and an additional activity or games room.
