Stonewood Homes Hawke’s Bay takes top honours at the House of the Year awards

Stonewood Homes Hawkes Bay takes top honours at the House of the Year awards

Stonewood Homes Hawke’s Bay has been recognised with a Gold and two Silver Awards at the Registered Master Builders 2017 House of the Year Awards for the East Coast.

“We are delighted to have been recognised for our designs and quality craftsmanship. At Stonewood Homes we are focused on achieving building excellence and working with our customers to create a home they will love,” said Peter Barnes, Owner, Stonewood Homes Hawke’s Bay.

The Hawke’s Bay home builder walked away with three awards for Stonewood Homes:

  • Gold Award & Category Winner:   Nulook New Home $700,000 to $1 million
  • Silver Award Winner:  Nulook New Home $700,000 to $1 million
  • Silver Award Winner:  Resene New Home up to $450,000

Taking both Gold and Silver Awards in the Nulook New Home $700,000 to $1 million categories, Peter Barnes remarked that it’s the special touches that set these houses apart.

The 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom Gold Award & Category winner – a variation on Stonewood Homes Castle Park plan – is a spacious new home in Hastings featuring touches such as double cedar entry doors opening onto a feature foyer with recycled matai flooring.   Generous and beautiful living areas make the most of the 461sqm floorplan and the expansive master retreat offers optimum privacy, located away from the remaining bedrooms.   The guest wing is complete with a kitchen, living, bedroom and bathroom.   An entertainer’s dream, the indoor-outdoor flow is second to none, with all living areas and bedrooms opening up onto expansive decking overlooking a heated in-ground pool.

Taking the Silver Award in the same category was another Hastings home built by Peter and his team at Stonewood Homes Hawke’s Bay.

A covered porch with schist columns welcomes you into the formal foyer of this 427sqm home which is a marriage of functionality and style. Double French doors part to reveal a spacious, tiled family/dining/kitchen area. Solid jarrah adds richness to the modern kitchen island. This well-appointed space with scullery features up-to-date appliances. The balance of the workspaces is made from stone.  A temperature-controlled wine cellar is a favourite feature of this 4 bedroom property.

In the smaller home category, Stonewood Homes Hawke’s Bay was pleased to take the Silver Award for the Resene New Home up to $450,000.

“The brief from the owner, was simply ‘Build me a modern-day castle’.” says Peter.

The 4 bedroom Hawke’s Bay home features beautiful colonial windows giving the 194sqm property terrific street appeal.

“We’re especially pleased with the open plan family/dining/kitchen areas and the clever use of space, such as under the stairs, in this build.   A major consideration for the owners of this home was to maximise the beautiful Hawke’s Bay summers, so we used large bi-fold doors between the communal areas and a large deck,” he added.

The Registered Master Builders 2017 House of the Year Awards is considered to be the epitome of building excellence in New Zealand, showcasing the best examples of quality workmanship and design innovation.

More than 370 homes were judged around New Zealand by a team of industry experts, with regional award winners being announced in July and August, ahead of the National Awards at the end of the year.

House of the Year has celebrated innovative quality building for over 25 years covering a wide range of house plans and price ranges. Its accolades are not only highly regarded but firmly cemented in New Zealand’s burgeoning building sector.
